It is the first edition of this map, published on August 12, 1944 by the Geographical Section, General Staff (GSGS) of the War Office of Great Britain. This overprint was referenced from air photographs taken August 3, 1944, and utilizes the North Italy Grid.

  Original paper maps were produced by various governments and mapping agencies during the Second World War, as part of the preparations for and immediately after D-Day (Operation Neptune). Paper maps were originally held by the Department of Defence, and were distributed by the Directorate of History and Heritage, Government of Canada, in the 1990s.
