In 2006 a group of students at Ministry of Environment completed a project to review the locations assigned to Water Well Information System (WWIS) records. The locations were reviewed and/or improved using a variety of methods including a new reference based on imagery. This information has been reviewed for accuracy and quality by Water Resources Information Program (WRIP) staff during a Phase 3 project in December 2010.
The Ministry of Environment: Water Well Information System (WWIS): Water Well Information System is managed by the Ministry of Environment. Many of the well records are recorded as a centre point of a township or other very general geographic description. These are the types of records that have had location improvements applied. All location improvement records are records older than 2006. Data collected from 01/01/1950 to 01/01/2006.
Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines: MNDM sponsored studies - Catfish_Kettle Creek, Essex, Long Point_Norfolk: improved data (often with GPS), metadata 2004-2005. The conservation authorities under MNDM funding gathered correct well locations.
Ontario Ministry of the Environment: MOE 1999-2004 Water Well Data Improvement Project: improved data, reviewed data, lot centroid locations, metadata. 999-2004. Project using a GIS tool to review and correct the georeferencing errors in the water well information system.
Conservation Authorities Moraine Coalition: CAMC - YPDT_Master Database (YPD, YPDT): reviewed and corrected locations, new wells and metadata. as of 2005. Evolved EarthFX database designed by the Conservation Authorities Moraine Coalition for work in the Oak Ridges Moraine.
Municipal Region of Waterloo: Waterloo - Waterloo_Region_Data: corrected locations and metadata. as of February 2006. Municipality of Waterloo's regional water well database.
Hunter and Associates LTD.: Hunter - MOE ORM Policy Initiative: corrections and reviewed locations and metadata. 2001-2003. Consultant review and correction of data using GIS.
Various Consultants and compiled by MOE: MOE Groundwater studies: corrections, reviewed locations, new wells and metadata. 999-2003: Consultant reports with datasets returned to MOE at completion of provincially funded ground water studies.
