Bear Management Area Coordinate system: 4269 - "NAD83" Abstract: This data set can be used to identify a Bear Management Area, which is an area of Crown land licenced annually to a tourist operator for providing bear hunting services to non-resident clients. Some BMAs can completely surround private or patent land. Bear hunting services can occur on these lands provided the licenced tourist operator allocated the BMA has obtained permission of the land owner to provide bear hunting services on the property.   In recent years much work has been done on the Bear Management Area data class to improve the geographic precision of boundaries. On January 1, 2013, the boundaries of BMAs were revoked from regulation, and the boundaries of BMAs identified and defined in the Bear Management Area data class became the official boundaries of BMAs.   Process step:

  Horizontal Accuracy: A lot of work has been done on the Bear Management Area data class in LIO warehouse to improve the geographic precision of boundaries. The Provincial Geomatics Service Centre completed a geometry clean-up project to align current BMA boundaries to LIO base data layers (parcel fabric, Ontario Hydrology Network, Ontario Road Network etc.) As part of the clean-up project more than 64% of existing BMA boundaries were edited. This project was executed between December 2012 and June 7, 2013; therefore in order to get the most recent BMA data with all of the boundary alignment changes, you must download a version of the data class post June 7, 2013.
